Our clients' cramped and dark kitchen with a separate dining room prevented them from fully enjoying and getting the most from their home.
Listening to their needs, and discussing and sketching different options with them, we advised on the best layout to achieve this.
The scheme we developed incorporated the property’s side return to create a light and spacious kitchen and entertaining area.
The existing second reception room had very tall doors leading into the side return, the client wanted to keep the height of this original Victorian doorway - which would now lead into the new open-plan area - to maximise the amount of light coming into this room.
Using our knowledge and experience of planning regulations, we were able to design a taller than usually permitted scheme, that would clear the top of the reception room doors into the new extension. Our spacious solution was approved for planning by the local authority without question.
The result is a stylish, light and generous kitchen and dining area. The exposed brickwork and new timber-framed windows deliver our clients with a space which is both contemporary and sympathetic to the heritage of the house, whilst adding the modernity and ease of entertaining that comes from open-plan living.
